Bridgeport Pair Tries Theft Near Police Encampment

Leave Party City with goods in plain sight of police

Two women attempt theft in sight of Police Mobile Command Unit

Two Bridgeport women were arrested early afternoon Thursday after leaving Party City with $124 in merchandise for which they didn’t pay. Their attempt was in plain sight of the Fairfield Police Department’s Mobile Command Center, which had been set up in the adjacent parking lot to assist local residents without power from the recent hurricane turned tropical storm Irene.

According to police, Cynthia Clark, 23, and Lovicia Johnson, 21, of Bridgeport, were also caught with at least $354 worth of items from various other stores in the Milford Mall. The manager reported that the women had a purple Marshall’s bag and red tote bag and they went to the counter, paying for only $37 worth of merchandise. Another employee, who was up on a ladder, could see into their bags and confirmed the concealment. A Virginia registration was also noticed on their car, which tracked to an unregistered 1993 black Honda, which was towed after the women were arrested.

Clark was charged with two counts of sixth-degree larceny and two counts of conspiracy to commit larceny, while Johnson was charged with one count of each. A court date of Sept. 15 was set and $500 bond issued on each.

Crime spree in Windermere Street / Homeland Street area

The following criminal incidents all took place in the Windermere Street / Homeland Street area on Thursday.

Car stolen

The homeowner at 332 Windermere Street reported Thursday morning that his 2007 Toyota Camry had been stolen from his driveway sometime between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. in the overnight period. According to police, the car was unlocked and the keys were inside.

Change taken from car

The homeowner at 184 Windermere Street reported late afternoon Thursday that her vehicle had been entered and change taken from the center console. The woman found some contents of her car strewn across her lawn. The vehicle is a 2002 Toyota and had been parked in the driveway. An I.D. card from another area resident, on Homeland Street, was also found.

GPS and cell phone taken from car

The homeowner at 224 Windermere Street reported early Thursday evening that her GPS and Blackberry Pearl cell phone had been stolen from her 2008 Honda CRV overnight. According to police, one of the car doors was unlocked. The Garmin GPS is valued at $125 while the cell phone is tagged at $300 in value.

Wallet stolen from vehicle

The homeowner at 270 Homeland Street reported early Thursday evening that his vehicle, a Subaru, had been entered and a wallet with I.D. card stolen. Police said the same car was recently stolen from in front of the house but recovered, in Bridgeport.

Glass coffee table taken from yard

The homeowner at 683 Pequot Avenue reported mid-afternoon Thursday that a glass coffee table had been taken from her yard.

According to police, the woman said her son had been conducting a lemonade stand using the table and the two of them decided to have lunch, taking all the equipment except the table away. During their half hour absence, from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., the table was stolen. It is value at $800 and was part of a wicker set.

Car window smashed

A client of Jenny Craig, at 855 Post Road, reported Thursday evening that the passenger side window of her black 2004 Honda Santa Fe had been smashed but that nothing appeared to be taken. The window was broken while she was at work.

Nearly $3k worth of items stolen from car at Planet Fitness

A client of Planet Fitness, at 111 Black Rock Turnpike, reported the theft of multiple items from her car, a window of which was smashed to gain access.

According to police, taken was a purse, ($100), MacBook Pro laptop computer ($1,100), notebooks ($5), phone charger ($30), a second pocketbook ($400), a wallet ($75), cash ($400), earrings ($200), social security card and personal papers.

Cars ransacked on Old Oaks Road

The homeowner at 206 Old Oaks Road reported that all four of her cars, parked in her driveway, were ransacked in the Thursday night to Friday morning overnight period.

According to police, a Volvo, Chevy, Honda and Subaru were each entered. There was no immediate report of any missing items.
