Burglary Attempt Leads to Four Arrests, Multi-Agency Engagement

A prime example of law enforcement cooperation

(The following arrest and investigations information was supplied by the Fairfield Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.)

Police arrested three men and a woman, from varying New York and New Jersey addresses, Friday evening after they attempted to rob a Sawyer Road home while the resident was in the house. They were apprehended due to the alertness of a Fairfield patrolman and the support of local and federal law enforcement agencies that rushed to the scene.

Around 7 p.m., the resident at 95 Sawyer Road reported that someone was trying to break into his house, using a tool to pry open the front door. When the would-be thief, described as a white male, saw the homeowner inside, he fled and jumped into a gray Dodge Charger with NY plates and three people inside. Officers that came to the scene found large pry marks near the front door lock, consistent with the homeowner’s report.

Minutes later, a Fairfield patrolman, Officer Benjamin Krygier, located the car traveling south on Black Rock Turnpike and then getting on I-95 at Stephen’s Lane. He followed the car and pulled it over at the southbound rest area. At the wheel was Carlos Jadan, 42, of Portchester, NY; beside him was Lorena Egas, of the same address; and in the backseat was Luis Rodgriguez-Barrios, 31, and John Sachezcastro, 29, both from Englewood, NJ. The homeowner was brought to the scene and positively identified the suspects. Taken from the car as evidence was a black backpack under the driver’s seat, which contained gloves and a large Craftsman screwdriver, that matched pry marks at the home. Egas also consented to a search of her pocketbook, which turned up jewelry, watches, two digital cameras, a receipt for two-way radios, a cellphone, mini flashlight and more gloves. More items were found on each of the individuals.

The vehicle was impounded and a background check run on the individuals. It was learned that all have extensive criminal histories. It was also discovered that there had been two residential burglaries earlier in the day in Darien, which appeared to be connected according to Darien Police. Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices were contacted as well, and an immigration detention order issued on Sanchezcastro.
