Cat Dies in Smoky Fire on Jennings Road

Another Cat Escapes; Occupant Ok

A cat died Tuesday in a small but smoky fire on Jennings Road in Fairfield that the occupant discovered about 11:56 a.m., firefighters said.

Assistant Fire Chief Christopher Tracy said another cat escaped from the fire, which was confined to a table in the kitchen but which caused smoke and soot damage throughout the first floor of the two-family house.

Firefighters, arriving on scene in three minutes, quickly extinguished the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fairfield Fire Marshal's Office, Tracy said.
