Condoms, Gum Targets of Shoplifting Sprees in Fairfield

One man allegedly attempted to thieve $239 worth of gum; another man attempted to make off with $647 worth of condoms and gum, police said.

A Monroe man was charged with sixth-degree larceny on Friday after he allegedly stole $239 worth of gum from on Villa Avenue, police said.

William T. Lee, 35, of Field Rock Road in Monroe was released on a promise to appear in court on June 12.

But a Sandy Hook, Conn. man did Lee one better when he was arrested this weekend for allegedly stealing $647 worth of gum and condoms, police said.

Maxtone Hoagland, 43, of Glen Road in Sandy Hook was charged with fifth-degree larceny after he tried to make off with the gum and contraceptives from the Kings Highway Cutoff , according to the report.

Hoagland was released on a promise to appear in court on June 12.
