A police officer was injured in a motor vehicle accident on I-95 Sunday night on his way to respond to an incident, police said.

Patrol Sgt. Edward Weihe suffered minor injuries following the accident, which state police are investigating. He was treated and released from St. Vincent’s Medical Center, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said. The other operator, a female, was also transported to St. Vincent’s, but it was not known at the time of this report whether she has been released from the hospital yet. Her injuries were not serious, Lussier said.

Weihe was responding with lights and sirens to a report of a juvenile threatening his mother and sister with a kitchen knife on Ross Hill Road, Lussier said. He took I-95 to reach the home; the accident occurred on near exit 21.

As for the incident on Ross Hill Road, another officer responded to the report; the youth was issued a juvenile summons to appear in court on Feb. 14, Lussier said.

A Vesper Street home was the subject of vandalism this weekend, police said.

The house is under construction, Lussier said. Police found the yard littered with bottles alcohol, including a bottle of red wine, blackberry brandy, a bottle of Captain Morgan, and a few Bud Lights, Lussier said.

It appeared the bottles were most likely thrown from Pope Street in an attempt to hit the windows, which failed. The bottles damaged the siding of the house, Lussier said.

The bottles caused at least $360 in damage to the siding, according to the report.

Police are investigating a shoplifting incident that occurred on Saturday at HobbyTown USA.

According to a store employee, a white male sporting blonde facial hair and wearing a mechanics jacket, a hat, and glasses was in the store for 45 minutes and said he was “just looking,” police said.

After the suspect left the store, the employee found two empty packages that previously contained remote control car wheels, Lussier said. Each package is worth $25.99.

Surveillance cameras filmed the suspect crouching on the ground in front of the car wheel packages, tampering with an item, and then putting something in his pocket, Lussier said.

Police have developed a possible suspect, Lussier said.

Police are investigating two reports of egged cars that occurred over the weekend on Woodridge Avenue, Lussier said.

A man reported his car was egged outside of his girlfriend’s house; an across-the-street neighbor’s truck was also egged, according to the report.

A Warde Terrace resident reported to police on Sunday that her vehicle was entered overnight. $300 worth of clothes was taken from the front seat, Lussier said.

The resident was not sure if she had locked the car the night before; there was no sign of forced entry, according to the report.
