A man received an unpleasant surprise Thursday when he found a stranger sitting in his car, rifling through his spare change in the Bank of America (1424 Post Road) parking lot.
The complainant asked the stranger what he was doing in his vehicle, according to police. The suspect ran away, toward the Fairfield Police Department.
The complainant then called police to alert them of the suspect and an officer saw the man chasing the other male down Reef Road.
Police detained the suspect -- later identified as Hector Serrano-Burgos of Bridgeport -- and took him into custody after the complainant requested an arrest. Officers reportedly found loose change from the car in Serrano-Burgos' pocket, as well as marijuana and a balloon filled with suboxone, a prescription medication used to treat opiate addiction, police said.
Serrano-Burgos, 47, was charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, possession of narcotics and failure to keep a prescription drug in its original container. He was also issued an infraction for possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana, police said.
Serrano-Burgos was held in lieu of a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 11.
