A Bridgeport man faces numerous firearms charges after he allegedly entered a dialysis center in Fairfield on Friday and displayed the butt of a handgun to an employee.

The man had come into a medical clinic on Stillson Road looking for his girlfriend, who works there, according to the employee. The complainant told police she thought this was strange, so she told the man his girlfriend was at an out-of-town meeting and took him to a room away from the rest of the staff. The man reportedly pulled out the handle of what the employee believed to be a pistol from his pocket, according to the report.

When the employee asked why the man was "packing," the suspect reportedly said he had to protect himself.

The man then left the center. The complainant gave police several possible addresses the suspect may have fled to.

Fairfield and Bridgeport police officers found the suspect's car outside of a home on Livingston Road in Bridgeport. A family member told police the suspect was in the house, but officers spotted the man fleeing from the home through the backyard.

The man was arrested after police ordered him to stop running and detained him.

Officers also received consent from the homeowner to search the Livingston Road home. They found several martial arts-type throwing knives, but did not recover any firearms, Deputy Chief Chris Lyddy said.

Police determined from a source at the home that the suspect had visited another residence on Higgins Avenue in Bridgeport before he arrived at the home on Livingston Road. Officers obtained consent to search the Higgins Avenue home, where they found a bag containing three different types of ammunition, a Daisy BB gun, and a Century International Arms semi-automatic 7.62 mm assault rifle, Lyddy said. The latter residence is the suspect's home.

The suspect -- identified as Damon Jones, 37 -- was charged with two counts of breach of peace, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a pistol, carrying weapons in a motor vehicle, second-degree threatening, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Jones was held in lieu of a $250,000 bond and was scheduled to have appeared in court on Monday.
