Cops: Man, 68, Charged with Damaging Bus Door with Cane

According to police, the man broke the glass on the door with his cane.

A 68-year-old man was charged with second-degree criminal mischief Monday after he allegedly hit the door of a Milford Transit Bus with his cane and cracked the glass, causing $300 in damage, police said.

Robert Christensen of Bridgeport was reportedly attempting to board the bus at the stop in front of the Bob's Stores shopping plaza on the Post Road. The bus driver recognized Christensen, who had been warned he could no longer ride Milford Transit for past poor conduct while on the bus, according to the report.

The bus driver shut the door to prevent Christensen from boarding, and police said Christensen then hit the door with his cane.

Christensen told police he thought he tapped the glass and did not realize he had cracked it, according to the report. He took responsibility for the damage and told police he knew about the warning, but did not realize the bus was a Milford Transit vehicle because of "the new paint scheme."

Christensen was released on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 5.
