Cops: Man Charged in Attempted TD Bank Robbery

[Editor's note: Arrest information is supplied by the Fairfield Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.]

A Bridgeport man was arrested in connection to Monday's attempted robbery at TD Bank on Black Rock Turnpike.

Alfred Capozziello III, 44, of Hawthorne Street, was charged Monday with second-degree criminal attempt to commit robbery, second-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree threatening, and breach of peace after he allegedly ordered an acquaintance to travel to TD Bank to withdraw funds from the victim's personal bank account to pay a debt, police said.

Capozziello was reported to have threatened the victim with a firearm, but police did not recover a gun upon his arrest, department spokesperson Sgt. Suzanne Lussier said. Capozziello did reportedly admit to threatening to harm the victim.

Capozziello was release after posting a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.

Fairfield's Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call just before 2 p.m. Monday regarding a possible robbery, as relayed by a TD Bank employee. Two officers working a private duty construction job nearby responded to the call and located a male fitting the description of the suspect who entered the bank with the victim.

The male -- later identified as Capozziello -- was apprehended on scene.

The victim told responding officers that he had just been "robbed," police said. He told police he had been at his home in Bridgeport when two men, including Capozziello, entered his house and demanded at gunpoint that he accompany them to the bank to withdraw money, Lussier said.

The two men drove the victim to TD Bank in an attempt to force him to withdraw money, but the man alerted the teller inside the bank of what was happening, according to the reports. The employee called 911.

A second suspect left in a Mercedes prior to police arrival. The car has not been located and the registration plate is unknown, Lussier said. The second suspect is described as a Hispanic male, but there is no further description or video available at this time.

Any reports of weapons being displayed in this crime are unconfirmed, Lussier said. Detectives continue the investigation and new information will be disseminated as it develops.
