A Wallingford man allegedly led police on a chase early Thursday, crashed his car, and then abandoned the vehicle while a passenger was trapped inside.

State police alerted local departments of a car traveling at 100 mph in the breakdown lane on I-95 southbound just after 6 a.m. Thursday, Deputy Police Chief Chris Lyddy said.

The car described by state police exited the highway onto Bronson Road, failed to stop at the stop sign at the end of the ramp, drove across two lanes of traffic, struck a structure on a Bronson Road property, and crashed.

The driver fled the scene of the accident on foot, according to police, and ran through the backyards of Bronson Road properties until police located him hiding under a resident's deck, Lyddy said.

A passenger was trapped inside the car and required extrication by fire department personnel. The victim was alert and conscious at the time of his rescue and was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center, according to Lyddy.

The driver -- identified as Emil Stuck, 23, of Wallingford -- was charged with reckless driving, evading responsibility, and interfering with police. He was released after posting a $100 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 18.
