A Fairfield man is accused of threatening juveniles with a machete, police said.

The man was reportedly riding a dirt bike down Campfield Drive Friday when he approached a group of juveniles. He stepped off the bike and got into a verbal argument with the group before threatening to come back and kill them, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.

He drove on the grass toward the juveniles before driving away, according to the report.

The man later returned on a bicycle to where the juveniles were congregated, this time with a long object that witnesses described as a machete. He allegedly hit two mailboxes with the object and smashes a rearview mirror on a Campfield Drive resident's car, causing a total $1,000 in damage.

A neighbor reported the incident to police. Five other witnesses confirmed the account with officers.

Police found the man matching the suspect's description at his Beaconview Drive home. He told police he threw the machete into the woods behind his home, but officers could not find the knife.

Richard Morawski, 45, was charged with threatening in the second degree, two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, second degree breach of peace, and risk of injury to a minor.

Morawski reportedly told police that he was angry with the juveniles because they stand outside his window and yell profanities as he tries to sleep, Lussier said.

He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.
