A New Canaan man was charged last week with driving while intoxicated after police reportedly found him sleeping in his vehicle in front of BJ's.
According to the police report, an officer noticed a car was in front of the doors of BJ's on Black Rock Turnpike. Police approached and saw a man sleeping inside, and that the car was running and in drive. When they woke the man up, his foot slipped off the pedal and the vehicle rolled for four or five feet before it stopped.
Police reportedly detected alcohol the man's breath -- and found a bottle of Bacardi and marijuana in the car.
Colin Eldred, 28, then reportedly admitted he had been drinking since 8 a.m. -- three hours before police found him, according to the report. He reportedly failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
Eldred was additionally charged with driving without a license and possession of less than 5 ounces of marijuana, according to the report. He was held in lieu of a $100 bond and is scheduled to appear in court this month.
