A Fairfield woman was arrested Thursday for allegedly leaving two young children in the car in bitterly cold weather while she shopped in CVS, police said.
A witness reported to police that the children had been left unsupervised in the rear of the car, according to the report. The car was parked at CVS at 961 Black Rock Turnpike.
A 3-year-old and a 9-year old were alone in the car -- which was turned off -- during 19-degree weather, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.
When officers located the operator of the vehicle, she told police that she didn't see what the problem was.
The operator -- identified as Tatum Roberts, 29, of Jennings Road -- was charged with two counts of leaving a child under the age of 12 unsupervised, a misdemeanor, police said.
She was released on a promise to appear in court on Feb. 5. It was not disclosed in the report whether or not the children are hers.
