Warrant arrest nets $100k in bonds

A Shelton man was arrested in Bridgeport Superior Court Friday Aug. 12 on warrants related to two May 24 burglaries.

According to police, Collin McCarthy, 44, was arrested on conspiracy to commit second-degree burglary in a break-in at 655 Wilson Street, was held on a $50,000 bond and processed in court Aug. 12. In the second incident, at 53 Windsor Road, McCarthy was charged with third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary and fourth-degree larceny. In that event, for which he was also held on a $50,000 bond and processed in court Aug. 12, McCarthy took numerous items including jewelry.

Motor vehicle accident leads to DUI arrest

A Fairfield man was arrested early afternoon Saturday Aug. 13 on a DUI charge after sideswiping another car.

According to police, Paul Meade, 50, of 1420 Melville Ave., veered left into an improper breakdown lane and sideswiped another vehicle. Officers pulled him over, detected alcohol on his breath and noted that he was confused and repeating himself. They administered sobriety tests, all of which he failed. Meade told officers he had had two shots and was also diabetic. He was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where a toxicology test was conducted, the results of which spurred a warrant for Meade’s arrest.

Meade was released on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 22.

Bridgeport man nabbed in groceries theft from Stop & Shop

A Bridgeport man was arrested late afternoon Friday Aug. 12 for attempting to steal $368 worth of groceries from Super Stop & Shop, 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff.

According to police, Victor Newton, 53, was seen pushing a cart full of groceries past registers and out into the parking lot. When spotted, he abandoned the cart and ran into Duchess, where he was detained. The Stop & Shop store manager positively identified him. Officers also searched him and found a glass pipe used in the inhalation of narcotics.

Newton was charged with use and possession of drug paraphernalia and sixth-degree larceny. He was released on a written promise to appear in court Aug. 19.

New Haven man arrested in tool theft from Home Depot

A New Haven man was arrested late Friday morning Aug. 12 in the attempted theft of DeWalt tools from Home Depot, 541 Kings Highway Cutoff.

According to police, Michael Sawyer, 37, was seen running from the store with the tools and placing them in a white Dodge pickup. He was arrested on a charge of fifth-degree larceny. There was no information on a court date or bond.
