CT American Legion Honors Fairfield Police Department

Department named 'Police Department of the Year' in Connecticut for 2011

The Fairfield Police Department was honored by the state American Legion on Thursday, receiving the Legion's "Police Department of the Year" award at a convention in Rocky Hill.

The department, which was nominated by the George Alfred Smith Post No. 74 of the American Legion on Reef Road in Fairfield, received the honor for the work it's done in four areas: Children and youth, drug education, community awareness, and projects and participation in patriotic observances.

The department received the award at the American Legion - Department of Connecticut's 93rd annual convention.

"The award is just a reflection on the men and women of the department and the work that they do for the town of Fairfield," said Police Chief Gary MacNamara.
