Dog Rescued from Fairfield Lake

A Good Samaritan saved a distressed dog from possibly drowning in Lake Mohegan.

Dog Saved from Lake Mohegan

A dog was rescued from Sunday, Fairfield Police spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said. Its owner jumped after she noticed the dog was in distress, but it was the act of a Good Samaritan, who entered the lake in a kayak, that safely brought the dog to shore.

All parties were fine following the incident in the lake, Lussier said.

Criminal Trespass

Michael Torres, 22, of Bridgeport, was arrested on a charge of criminal trespass in the first degree on Oct. 21, according to Fairfield police.

Torres was arrested during a motor vehicle stop of an incident of trespass that occurred in April of this year. According to the original report, Torres was found trespassing on Fairfield University property and was allegedly uncooperative with the school’s security officers, who called the police.

Police later requested his arrest, and there had been a warrant issued from a previous trespass incident from November 2010, according to records. He was released on Oct. 21 on written promise to appear, and his court date was not given in the report.

Drug Arrest at Fairfield University

A Newark, Del., man was arrested on Oct. 22 after he was found in a car on the campus with marijuana, pills, and alcohol, police said.

Thomas Morgan Gill, 19, a reported “non-student,” was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance, three counts of failure to keep drugs in their original container, and three counts of possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, Lussier said.

He was also issued infractions for possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of less than a half an ounce of marijuana, according to police.

University public safety reported to police that Gill was in possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle on campus, and they smelled marijuana inside the car, according to the report.

Police conducted a search, found a leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana, and also discovered 23 pills in an unmarked container, and two more under a floor mat, Lussier said. The pills looked similar to Adderall, she added.

Gill was held on a $2,500 bond, and his court date is Oct. 31.

Sibling Rivalry

A Fairfield woman was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct after she and her sister reportedly engaged in a verbal argument that turned physical, Lussier said.

Colleen Maxham, 21, of North Benson Road, grabbed her sister’s arm and scratched it, causing obvious injury, after they fought over a camera, according to the police report.

Her sister reported that Maxham entered her room to look for the camera, and then began to yell at her sister, police said. Their mother tried to separate the girls, but according to police, Maxham reached around her mother to grab her sister.

Maxham was transported to Bridgeport Hospital for evaluation, police said. She was released on written promise to appear in court. Her court date is today.

Hit and (Almost) Run

An Oyster Bay, N.Y., man was arrested early morning on Oct. 22 after he reportedly attempted a U-turn on Lalley Boulevard and hit a car parked in a driveway, police said.

(Removed), was charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive right, and evading responsibility, Lussier said. (Removed) drove on after hitting the vehicle, police said. The car’s owner heard the collision and called the police, who caught up with (Removed) at Beach Road and Old Post Road.

(Removed) failed three field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest, according to police. He was held on a $25 bond and his court date is Nov. 1.

Favor Turned Bad

A Long Meadow Road resident reported to police headquarters on Oct. 21 that a man who did electric work for his home was threatening and harassing the resident and his wife, Lussier said.

The resident told police the man was supposedly doing the work as a favor to the couple, and the resident did not expect to be charged for the work.

Apparently, the man performing the work felt otherwise. According to the report, he told the complainant he was going to “punch him in the face.”

$1,300 in Possessions Stolen From Lakewood Drive Home

A Lakewood Drive home was burgled sometime between 3 p.m. on Oct. 22 and the next morning (Sunday), according to police.

The complainant does not know how entry was gained, as the house was supposedly locked, police said. He told police he was in the process of moving.

A Bose Radio, valued at $500, was taken from the kitchen counter; a Tiffany wedding band ($500) and two silver earrings ($50) were taken, as well as a $250 white and clear ToyWatch, Lussier said.

The incident is under investigation.

Recovered Property Turned Over to Police

Police are holding for safekeeping an envelope containing cash that was found near the mailbox of 1 Mill Plain Green on Oct. 22, Lussier said.

A U.S. Postal Service worker found the envelope and turned it in to headquarters -- in case anyone is looking.
