A burglar’s reported attempt at entering a home by screen was thwarted when the homeowner heard something and walked out onto the porch. The would-be robber reportedly threatened the homeowner with a small folding knife after hopping into the yard, and then ran away. Police didn’t find him.

A Redding resident perhaps thinking himself a neighborhood watchman — and perhaps even commendably so — called police to notify them he heard alot of loud screaming coming from a residence on Sunday. When police responded to the incident, , who'd just went to the bathroom inside his house.

A alleged drunken driver damaged three parked cars early Monday morning by crashing into the rear of one of them, Norwalk police said. After being notified of the incident and arriving at the scene, an officer said he encountered a man in the bathroom drinking water from the sink.

Under police questioning, the man said he’d had a rough day breaking up with his girlfriend. He said he had just left a bar on Washington Street, and was driving to New York to surprise a former girlfriend.

Police said he allegedly told them he drank one beer and appealed to them not to be arrested considering the circumstances. The man said the collision occurred because he veered right to avoid an oncoming vehicle.

The man said he’d struck his head on the steering wheel, negating the police administering him a field sobriety test. The man was transported to Norwalk Hospital where, police said, he became argumentative with staff. At the accident scene, police noted there were no skid marks to indicate Gilbertson attempted to stop his car.

• A New York man involved in a civil suit with a Fairfield couple entered their home and refused to leave. The couple called police, who arrested the intruder.
