Double Shoplift Attempt Busted at Fairfield Rite Aid

Two women were caught attempting to steal $125 in goods from the pharmacy.

Double Arrest in Rite Aid Larceny

Two Bridgeport women were arrested on Wednesday on larceny charges after a shoplifting attempt at , according to department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier.

Emilia Rodriguez, 54, and Dennisse Charafeddine, 43, reportedly attempted to shoplift $125 worth of items, Lussier said. Both were charged with larceny in the sixth degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree.

According to police, Rodriguez was warned not to return to the same Rite Aid the day before. She was further charged with criminal trespassing in the first degree.

“Not only did she return, but she returned with a friend,” Lussier said.

Police believe the women may have attempted to steal the merchandise to sell to friends and use the money for drugs, Lussier said.

Rodriguez and Charafeddine were both released on written promise to appear in court on Nov. 3.

Home Depot Larceny

A Bridgeport man was arrested Wednesday after he reportedly attempted to shoplift $52 worth of tools from , police said.

Petro Oliynyk, 44, allegedly walked past all points of sale before he was detained by loss prevention, according to police. He did not have the funds on him to pay for the tools. He was charged with larceny in the sixth degree, according to the report.

Oliynyk was released on written promise to appear in court on Nov. 7.

Area Burglaries

A man reported his father’s Sturges Highway home was burgled Wednesday, according to police.

A rear window was pried open, Lussier said. There were no other signs of forced entry, and the complainant said the doors had all been locked prior to the burglary.

Several rooms were ransacked, and a 42-inch flat screen TV and jewelry were missing, Lussier said.

Earlier Wednesday, a resident on nearby Queens Grant Road spotted a suspicious person wandering around in her backyard, Lussier said. The person was a white male, possibly in his 30s, with dark hair wearing a gray v-neck sweater and khaki pants. He was carrying a black backpack and drove off in a gray sedan, the complainant reported.

There was also a woman in a silver SUV who took off when the male did, both in the same direction, Lussier said.

She encourages any residents who may have spotted suspicious persons in that area matching those descriptions to call police to report.

A Woodside Circle resident reported her home had been burglarized sometime between noon and 3 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

There were no signs of forced entry, but the second floor French door was open, Lussier said. The resident said she believed she had shut and locked it prior to leaving the house that morning.

Assorted gold jewelry was missing from a bedroom jewelry box, Lussier said. No value was given.

Police canvassed the neighborhood; neighbors reported they had not seen anything suspicious that afternoon.

Six Exhaust Resonators Stolen

A service manager at on Commerce Drive reported Wednesday that the exhaust resonators on six Infinity QX 56 SUVs were missing, police said.

Each resonator is valued at $1,000. The manager and police believe whoever took the resonators were attempting to get to the catalytic converters, which are made up of expensive metals and can be sold for about $2,000, Lussier said.

This is under investigation.

Hit and Run Suspect on the Loose

If you happen to spot a white car with red side damage driving around town, let police know -- the driver may have been involved in a hit and run Wednesday.

The driver of a red car legally parked on Main Street in Southport near reported her car had been swiped by an unknown vehicle that left the scene, Lussier said.

The red car had white paint transfer and some damage, police said. There were no witnesses.

Porsche Getaway

An salesman reported to police Wednesday that two Hispanic males reportedly drove off in one of the dealership’s black Boxster Porsche Convertibles when they asked to take it on a “test run,” Lussier said.

The suspects are two Hispanic males: one heavyset and in his 30s, the other thin and in his 20s.
