Driver Escapes Injury in Fiery Crash on Merritt Parkway in Fairfield

The female driver was reportedly treated by paramedics on the scene but declined further treatment and transport, according to the report.

A motorist escaped without injuries in a motor vehicle rollover with fire that occurred at about 3:20 a.m. Sunday on the Merritt Parkway south in Fairfield between exits 44 and 42.

When first responders arrived they reportedly found the driver and sole occupant outside the vehicle, with the car on its roof and in flames, according to a report from Assistant Chief Chris Tracy of the . The also responded to the scene.

The female driver was reportedly treated by paramedics on the scene but declined further treatment and transport, according to the report.

Firefighters from Westport, under the direction of Assistant Chief Larry Conklin, assisted with the cleanup of the accident, according to the report.

It was reportedly the Fairfield Fire Department’s second call for a motor vehicle accident in less than an hour.  At 2:31 a.m. Sunday firefighters responded to a two-vehicle accident with injury on the Merritt Parkway north near the Exit 46 off ramp.

"This accident also involved a Connecticut State Police vehicle,” Assistant chief Tracy’s report states, adding that his department had no further information on the accident.
