DUI arrest at Fairfield University

A non-student was arrested for DUI at the main entrance to Fairfield University, 1073 N. Benson Road, in the wee hours of the morning Tuesday after he appeared to be intoxicated.

According to police, the man was giving security a hard time, and they detained and reported him to police. Police, who detected the odor of alcohol and noticed in the car both an opened can of Natural Light beer and a mostly open and empty bottle of Captain Morgan rum, administered a sobriety test, which the driver filed. Arrested and brought to police headquarters was Robert Onthank, Jr., 23, charged with DUI and operating with a suspended license.

Onthank was released on a $1,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 26.

Personal ad falsely listed on Craig’s List

A woman that resides at 111 Forest Ave. reported at police headquarters early afternoon Monday that a personal ad about her was placed on Craig’s List without her permission.

According to police, the woman was alerted to the ad when she received an email from a person responding to it. She believes someone else is behind the false listing, police said. The incident is being investigated by Fairfield’s detective bureau.

Mailbox vandalized

The homeowner at 252 Village Lane reported late afternoon Monday that her mailbox had been vandalized.

According to police, the woman found the post and mailbox destroyed Sunday morning. She estimated the value at $200. A neighbor said she heard kids outside around 3 a.m.

Bike stolen

A local man reported at police headquarters early Tuesday evening that he bike had been stolen from the Fairfield train station sometime over the weekend.

According to police, the man locked his 10-year-old white Giant mountain bike to a bike rack on Friday at 5 a.m. and when he returned to the rack Monday at 7 p.m., the bike and lock were gone. He estimated the value of the bike and lock at $300.

Woman harassed and threatened by ex-boyfriend

A woman residing at 83 Donna Drive filed a complaint mid-evening Monday about harassing and threatening texts she had received from her ex-boyfriend.

According to police, the pair had dated for 1 ½ years and recently ended their relationship. She attempted to end all contact with him, in fear of her safety. The incidents are under investigation.

Large sum of money goes missing from bank account

A couple who reside at 670 Black Rock Turnpike reported mid-evening Monday that a large sum of money was deducted from their bank account.

According to police, someone made an unauthorized charge on the couple’s Chase debit card, in the amount of $10,389. The couple went to their bank and was told that it was an electronic payment. Police are investigating.

Man pick-pocketed at Artisan

A man reported mid-evening Monday that, while he was at the bar having a drink at Artisan restaurant, 275 Old Post Road, Southport, his wallet was taken and emptied of cash.

According to police, the man heard someone call his name, then a waiter handed him his wallet, which was found on the ground. Over $500 in cash was taken. The victim told police he didn’t recall dropping the wallet and believes he was pick-pocketed.
