Fairfield Cops Investigate Tax ID Theft

Two residents reported they were the victims of tax-related identity theft, police said.

Fairfield police are investigating two cases of tax-related identity theft.

A Cross Highway resident reported that he received a rejection notice last week from the IRS after he filed his taxes with an accountant. The notice said someone had already filed for a tax return using the man’s name and Social Security number.

A Taintor Drive resident reported to police on Monday that he tried to file his taxes on Turbo Tax and received a rejection email from the company. The email stated someone had already filed for a return with the man’s name and Social Security number. No other information was available at the time of the report.
