Fairfield Cops Investigating More Residential Burglaries

Both a burglary and an attempted burglary occurred on Fairfield Beach Road just after the Reef Road home invasion on Wednesday; another occurred earlier in they day on Tunxis Hill Road.

Fairfield Beach Road residents reported a burglary shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, police said. According to the report, two neighbors called in to tell police they thought they saw people try to enter a nearby house through a sliding glass door.

The neighbors texted the residents, who was home, to ask if they were expecting anyone, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said. The resident said no, and he and the rest of the people in the house hid in a bedroom upstairs, where they reportedly heard footsteps throughout the house.

No one beside the residents was inside the house when police arrived on scene, Lussier said. Police found the front basement door unlocked and the bathroom window opened, but the screen still in place, according to the report.

Two laptops were stolen. This is under investigation.

Another Fairfield Beach Road resident reported shortly just before 1 a.m. on Thursday that someone attempted to break into a vacant home through the sliding glass door, police said.

It appeared the suspect was unable to gain entry, police said. The outer pane window of the sliding glass door was smashed, but the inner pane was still in tact, according to the report.

This is under investigation.

Police arrested a man Wednesday after he allegedly stole $154 worth of gum from on Villa Avenue, according to the report.

Kenneth McManus, 24, told police he was homeless and needed a way to make money to pay for a place to stay, Lussier said. He reportedly hid the gum in a backpack, which was hidden in a shopping cart by a jacket.

His last known address was in Stratford, Lussier said. McManus was released on a promise to appear in court Dec. 14.

A man made off with $80 worth of Christmas décor from the on the Post Road on Wednesday, according to police.

The suspect, described by the store manager as a white male in his 50s wearing blue jeans and a gray shirt, placed candles, a wreath, and two nutcrackers in a bag and left the store without paying, Lussier said.

The man reportedly reeked of alcohol and appeared intoxicated, according to the report.

He was gone when police arrived.

Police are looking for a heavyset Hispanic male wearing a blue hat and a blue jacket, who reportedly stole a 120-volt Dewalt drill ($194) from on Wednesday, Lussier said.

The man drove off in a tan sedan, according to Home Depot employees.

A Tunxis Hill Road resident reported Wednesday that more than $11,000 worth of valuables and items were stolen from her home, police said.

The homeowner did not realize the house had been burgled until she went upstairs and noticed jewelry and a 28-in. Panasonic flat screen television were missing, according to the report.

It did not appear that entry was forced, Lussier said. The homeowner noticed a door was unlocked and assumed one of her children forgot to lock it.

This is under investigation.

A man driving along Davis Road scared away a car thief just after midnight Thursday, police said.

The man told police he saw a white male with brown hair and a tan corduroy coat looking into a parked car, which had suffered a smashed window, according to the report.

The witness asked the suspect what he was doing, Lussier said. The suspect paused before fleeing through the backyards of Davis Road residents.

It is unknown if anything was taken from the vehicle, police said.
