Fairfield Cops: Jewelry Store Employee Stole $200K-$500K from Employer

A 65-year-old Norwalk man, who worked for Midas Touch Jewelers in Fairfield, is accused of stealing between $250,000 and $500,000 in cash and jewelry from his employer over a two and half year period, according to Fairfield police.

David Blosser, pictured, of 175 Silvermine Ave., allegedly was caught in late May taking $1,100 in cash from the jewelry store. Soon after, the owners began discovering that several pieces of jewelry were also missing from display cases. Among the items missing were a $15,000 diamond ring and five diamond bracelets worth a total of $11,400.

When confronted, Blosser allegedly admitted to taking at least $200,000 in cash and jewelry, but the amount is suspected to be significantly higher, in part because he worked for the company for more than 25 years, police said.

Blosser left Midas Touch a few years ago, after 25 years, to work for an unnamed Stamford jewelry company, police said. He was allegedly fired from the Stamford job for theft in 2010, but he was allowed to return to Midas Touch soon after. Details of the alleged Stamford situation were not disclosed.

Police said Blosser allegedly may have also taken loose diamonds from Midas Touch.

A warrant on first degree larceny, a felony, was issued for Blosser, who turned himself into police custody Saturday morning. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 21.
