Fairfield Firefighters Extinguish Morning Blaze
Firefighters battle morning blaze in Fairfield
Fairfield Firefighters attacked and extinguished a morning blaze near the northern border of town. At 9:16 a.m., the emergency communications center received a call about heavy black smoke coming from a home on Twin Lanes Road.
Fairfield Engines 2, 3, 4, and 5 were dispatched to the scene along with Ladders 1 and 2, in addition to Car 3. The crews extinguished the fire which apparently started in the basement, burned through the first and second floor and extended into the attic.
There were no reported injuries to anyone in the residence, but upon investigation, a family pet apparently died of smoke inhalation.

“We were fortunate that the town approved our request for additional hydrants in that area several years ago,” said Fire Chief Richard Felner. “If not for that foresight, and for our ability to address the lack of a positive water supply prior to that time, the fire would have extended much further into the home. As it was two pumpers laid out their supply lines and we were able to contain the fire to where Engine 5 found it upon arrival.”
The fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
