Fairfield Firefighters Extinguish Plum Street Porch Fire

The family had safely evacuated prior to the fire crew's arrivals, thanks to the home's smoke alarms.

Fairfield firefighters responded to a report of a porch fire on Plum Street early Tuesday. The family, including two small children, was able to escape from the home thanks to fire detectors, Assistant Chief Stephen Curry stated in a press release.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw the family outside of the home and heavy smoke visible in the front of the residence. Engine 1 supplied water to extinguish the flames and the crew from Ladder 2 entered the structure and ventilated the home, according to the release.

The porch fire caused approximately $1,000 in damage, Curry said in the release. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office but is believed to be accidental in nature.
