Fairfield Firefighters Rescue Rabbits, Cats From Basement Fire

No injuries reported, cause of fire remains under investigation.

Fairfield Firefighters rescued cats and rabbits from a basement fire on Knapps Highway Wednesday morning.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 10:50 a.m. and found heavy smoke in the basement, according to wfsb.com.

The residents were safely out of the house but told firefighters that several pets were still in cages in the basement, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The animals were safely removed from the basement from firefighters and the fire was under control by about 11:20 a.m.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
