A Fairfield man was arrested early Wednesday in connection to at least one car break-in in the Stratfield area of town, police said. He may be responsible for a string of other attempted thefts reported in the area on Wednesday.

Matthew Weaving, 19, of Lloyd Drive, was charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief, and sixth degree larceny after he admitted to police that he stole a computer monitor and a DVI cable from another Lloyd Drive resident.

According to the police report, the resident reported shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday that the driver side window of his vehicle was smashed ($150 in damage) and the DVI cable ($10) and monitor ($150) were missing.

While canvassing the area, police noticed a car parked in the area with blood on the driver’s side door, fresh vomit on the driver’s seat, and more vomit on the ground beneath the driver’s side door, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said. Upon closer inspection, police spotted the DVI cable in the car.

The responding officer spoke to the registered owner of the suspect vehicle, and that discussion lead police to Weaving, who admitted he stole the cable and monitor, police said. He had sold the monitor in Bridgeport after he took it from the car, according to the report.

Weaving is due to face charges in court on March 2. Release conditions were not available at the time of this report.

Three other residents in the area reported their vehicles had been broken into overnight. Lussier said police are investigating whether Weaver was responsible. Each resident reported his or her car was entered via a smashed window.
