Fairfield Man Arrested on DUI Charge

He was also charged with reckless driving and admitted to stopping at the Gray Goose Cafe and Delamar Hotel Wednesday night.

Reckless Driver DUI

A Fairfield man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane late Wednesday, according to police.

Steven Smyth, 35, was observed operating a vehicle that was swerving and exiting the proper lane traveling eastbound on the Post Road, police said.

Police followed him for an eighth of a mile before conducting a motor vehicle stop. Smyth failed to complete the field sobriety tests, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said. Police said Smyth’s eyes were glassy and he slurred his speech. He admitted to stopping at both the and in Southport before attempting to drive home, according to the report.

He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, Lussier said. He was released on a $100 bond and turned over to a friend; his court date is Nov. 14.

Smedley Road Altercation

Jennifer Shockley, 45, was arrested on charges of third-degree assault, violation of a protective order, and second-degree breach of peace Wednesday following a dispute that took place at her husband’s home on Smedley Road, police said.

Shockley reportedly arrived at the house to pick up her 8-year-old twins, whom she said wanted to stay with her, according to department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier. However, a court order against this had been issued for Shockley in July, and the husband took her keys and refused to let her take the children, who were already in Shockley’s car, according to the report.

Shockley then allegedly bit, scratched, and punched her husband, Lussier said. Responding officers arrived to the scene to find the pair fighting, according to the report.

Shockley was released on a $200 bond; her court date is today.

Larceny at Kohl’s

A Fairfield woman was arrested yesterday after reportedly shoplifting $378 worth of clothing from Wednesday, police said.

Amber Allen, 22, was charged with sixth-degree larceny, Lussier said. She was released on a written promise to appear in court Nov. 15.

Store employees told police they heard Allen ripping tags off items in the dressing room. According to the report, she concealed the assorted items from the junior department in a large gray bag, paid for two other items, and left without paying for the rest before police caught up with her.

Gas Station Shoplifter

An unknown man was observed on security footage shoplifting nine packs of Newport cigarettes Wednesday from the , police said.

The store manager reported to police that the footage revealed the suspect, donning a white sweatshirt, came up to the unmanned counter, looked around and reached for the packs, concealed them in his sweatshirt, and walked out.

Two Adley Road Vehicles Stolen

An Adley Road resident reported his white 2010 GMC Acadia was stolen sometime between Tuesday night and early Wednesday, police said.

The car was unlocked and the keys were left inside the vehicle, according to the report. It was recovered Wednesday in Bridgeport after it was involved in an accident; the driver fled, police said.

Another Adley Road resident’s vehicle -- this time a 2004 Alero -- stolen sometime overnight, according to police.

It was recovered in Bridgeport earlier this morning, Lussier said. Further information was not available.
