Fairfield Man Charged With DUI After Rollover Accident

No injuries were caused by the accident.

A Fairfield man was arrested on a DUI charge Monday evening after he lost control of his vehicle and hit a stone wall, causing the 2006 Ford Escape to flip onto its roof, police said. There were no injuries reported, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier added.

Timothy Coppola, 20, of Nepas Road, was also charged with failure to drive right and issued an infraction for possession of alcohol by a minor, Lussier said.

When police approached the scene of the single car rollover on Hoydens Lane near Morehouse Highway, they saw two young men walking away from the scene, Lussier said. The two men were Coppola and a friend, and they told police they were trying to find help.

The responding officer said he smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Coppola’s breath; Coppola admitted to operating the vehicle, and said he lost control, according to the report.

Coppola failed a sobriety test and police found a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey inside the passenger door, Lussier said.

Coppola was released to his mother after posting a $250 bond, police said. His court date is Dec. 13.

A Hulls Highway resident returned home Monday afternoon to find her house ransacked, police said.

The back entrance to the home was forced open and 16 sterling silverware place settings, totaling $3,200, were taken, Lussier said.

Dresser drawers were open, and jewelry missing in addition to the silverware, police said. An iPhone 4GS and two Dell laptops were also taken, according to the report. Checkbooks were open and strewn on the floor; it is not known whether any checks are missing, Lussier said.

A Range Road resident approached police while they conducted a canvass of the neighborhood and told officers he noticed a white van parked outside the home that afternoon, Lussier said. The neighbor added he thought he was the van driving on Range Road onto Hulls Highway.

This is under investigation.

A Fairfield Woods Road resident reported this morning that his 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT’s rims and tires were stolen sometime during the night, police said.

The vehicle was parked on the lawn on the side of the house, Lussier said. The homeowner found the Jeep resting on cinder blocks. The rims and wheels were estimated at $5,000, according to the report.

A Homefair Drive resident reported to police this morning that her car was broken into sometime overnight, police said. A window was smashed out and a purse stolen.

The purse, which was from Kohl’s, was worth little to no value but contained credit and bankcards and the resident’s insurance card, Lussier said.

Police arrested a Bridgeport man in connection to a that occurred in May, police said.

Joseph Kenneth Johnson, 25, was charged with burglary in the third degree and fifth-degree larceny, Lussier said. There was also a warrant out of Stamford for his arrest, according to the report.

The Dalewood Avenue homeowner knew Johnson and said in the original incident report that Johnson may have had a key to his house, police said.

Stolen were an iPod Touch ($170), an iPod Nano ($110), and a MacBook laptop ($1,300), according to the report.

Johnson was held in lieu of a $1,500 bond and issued a Dec. 9 court date.
