David Drabaski, 58, of Duck Farm Road, was charged with driving under the influence and following too closely, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said. Drabaski reportedly hit the rear of the vehicle in front of him, which was stopped at a red light on North Benson Road near Holland Hill. According to the accident report, Drabaski then passed the vehicle on the right, traveling up on the shoulder and accelerating. Police caught up with him a ways up the road, Lussier said.

When the responding officer questioned Drabaski, he reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol on the man’s breath, and a white, chalky substance on the man’s lips. He also reported observing Drabaski ingesting white pills and holding a bottle of oxycodone, according to the report.

The officer said that Drabaski was incoherent and incapacitated. He and the accident victim were transported to Bridgeport Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle had complained of some back and neck pain, Lussier said.

Police found an empty bottle of blackberry brandy in Drabaski’s vehicle and determined that he may have ingested a lot of oxycodone pills, as the prescription had been filled that day and many of the pills were gone, Lussier said.

Drabaski posted a $2,500 bond and was issued a Dec. 27 court date.

A call came in at 1:52 a.m. to report a suspicious male walking eastbound on Fairfield Beach Road toward Reef Road, Lussier said. The man had a stocking pulled over his head and was wearing a trench coat, according to the complainant.

The complainant said she spotted the man 30 minutes prior to making the report, Lussier said. The man was gone by the time police arrived.

Two youths were issued infractions for creating a public disturbance after a large fight broke out behind the Sport Hill Service station on Easton Turnpike on Tuesday, Lussier said.

The responding officer observed a group of teens running away from the scene in all directions upon his arrival, according to the report. The two responsible for the fight had already left the scene, Lussier said.

The officer tracked down one of the responsible parties, a 16-year-old male, who said the 17-year-old youthful offender “thought he was a tough guy,” and was apparently talking about the 16-year-old. A fight ensued.

Both offenders were issued Dec. 23 answer dates.
