Fairfield Man Convicted of Possessing Stolen Rifle

He could be sentenced to up to 10 years of prison, according to the U.S. Department of Justice .

A Fairfield man was convicted Friday od possessing a stolen firearm, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Kurt Schneider, 22, plead guilty before United States District Judge Vanessa Bryant in Hartford. Judge Bryant scheduled a sentencing hearing for Oct. 24. Schneider could face up to 10 years of prison, according to the release.

According to court records, Schneider was stopped by police in Bridgeport on Oct. 24, 2011 when he was found with a Charter Arms .22 rifle. The rifle was one of six weapons reported stolen from a Fairfield residence earlier that day, according to the release.

Schneider was arrested on March 8, 2012, and has been detained since.

The case was investigated by both the and Drug Enforcement Administration. All six firearms stolen from the Fairfield residence mentioned above have been recovered.
