Cops: Fairfield Man Scammed by Debt Organization

The Villa Place resident reported to police that he believes he is the victim of fraud allegedly committed by a group called the Federal Debt Commission.

A Villa Place resident reported to police on Friday that he was the victim of a credit card scam, police said.

The complainant told police that he had been contacted by a Florida-based organization called the Federal Debt Commission in September and was told the commission could eliminate his debt by 50 percent.

He sent several payments totaling nearly $9,000 before discovering the commission was not paying his bills and credit card companies were reporting he was late on payments, according to the report.

The resident was advised to contact the Federal Trade Commission and Attorney General, as well as the local police department. This is under investigation.
