Fairfield Mom Arrested After Struggle Over Strapping Child in Car Seat Captured on Video

Woman accused of assaulting ex-husband's female business associate in skirmish.

A skirmish that was caught on video by a home security system helped lead to the arrest of a Fairfield mother for allegedly assaulting her ex-husband's female business associate as the associate tried to put the former couple's child into a car.

Svetlana V. Simmons, 44, of Knapps Highway, was arrested on a warrant and charged with third-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor and breach of peace after she turned herself in at police headquarters on Monday.

According to the Connecticut Post, Simmons had driven to the home of her ex-husband on May 29 to exchange custody of their child and became angry when his female business associate attempted to place the child in a car seat.

The video showed, "the complainant leaning into a car, buckling the child into a car seat, and Svetlana running up to the complainant, yelling at her and grabbing her," Deputy Police Chief Christopher Lyddy told the Connecticut Post.
