A statement from First Selectman Michael Tetreau, via the town's Facebook page:

Dear Fairfield Residents,

I wish to express my deep sadness for the tragedy that occurred in Newtown today. My heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones. Our Superintendent and Police Chief have sent out an alert to Fairfield’s parents. Please be reassured that our town continues to keep our residents and children safe.

Let us count our blessings this holiday season and continue to perform good acts for one another.

Sincerely,
Michael C. Tetreau
First Selectman

The Fairfield Police Department has assigned patrols to monitor dismissal at Fairfield's school, according to a post on the department's Facebook page:

"The Chief of Police and Superintendent of Schools want to assure you that our schools are safe and that no further action is required by our schools at this time. However, the police department will be assigning additional patrol officers to all schools during dismissal time today as an added measure of safety. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the staff and students in Newtown."

Why is it the panel for this event does not include a single advocate for gun-owners' rights? WithRead More all due respect to Chief McNamara, why does the panel no include a person who can speak to gun safety from a gun-owning civilian's perspective? ML, you claim that the assembled folks "do not offer judgements about gun ownership" but they are not including a single voice that can offer perspective on gun ownership. I have been to "education" sessions sponsored by Meg's March for Change and they are one-sided indoctrinations into gun control advocacy. >>>> I was in Hartford for the public hearings in January when both Meg and March co-founder Nancy gave their personal testimonies and they all but threatened the legislators on the panel with election day retribution for all those who did not tow the gun-control line of thinking (i.e. March and CAGV). To suggest that Meg "does not offer judgements" is fallacious and disingenuous.
