Fairfield Police Department Releases Update on Overnight Storm-Related Occurences

Tally of alarms, transformer eruptions, street closures, wires down and shelter traffic

At 6:43am Sunday morning, Fairfield Police Sgt. Suzanne Lussier, in the department's Office of Public Affairs, released the following report, regarding Hurricane Irene related incidences around town. Lussier indicated that further reports would be forthcoming throughout the day.

Timeline of events for the Town of Fairfield:
 
00-05:30              12 Alarm responses
05:15                   Two transformers blew
05:40                   N. Benson & Mill Plain @ Post Rd. closed due to  flooded RR viaducts
05:45                   2,300 people w/o power
06:15                   Fairfield Ludlowe Shelter is currently housing, 70 people & 30 dogs
                 
Police headquarters lost power twice, causing the automatic activation of its backup generator.
