Jewelry, Cash Stolen from Fairfield Home

Police say $5,000 to $6,000 in cash and also jewelry was stolen from the New Hampshire Avenue home.

Vidal Romero Jr., 26, of Bridgeport was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, operating a drug factory and possession of marijuana within 1,500 feet of a school on Saturday, Sept. 24. According to police, an officer on patrol stopped Romero’s vehicle on Black Rock Turnpike near Tunxis Hill Road (also near McKinley Elementary School) for a seatbelt violation. Police said during the stop, Romero told the officer he did not have identification with him. However the officer saw a bulge in Romero’s front pants pocket that looked like a wallet. Police said the officer conducted a pat down of Romero and discovered that the bulge was a large wad of cash. Police said Romero consented to a search of the vehicle, which revealed seven knotted plastic baggies containing marijuana which police said were packaged for sale. Police said the marijuana weighed about 2.5 ounces total. Romero was also charged with failure to wear seatbelt and failure to carry a driver’s license. He was held on a $10,000 bond and was arraigned at a later date. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 4.

Charles Barcelona, 20, of Westport was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana within 1,500 feet of a school, and possession of drug paraphernalia on Sunday, Sept. 25. Police said security officers at Fairfield University stopped Barcelona’s vehicle as it was traveling the wrong way down a one way street on campus. When Fairfield Police arrived they noticed that Barcelona was exhibiting signs of intoxication. He was administered a field sobriety test, which he reportedly failed. Police said a search of Barcelona’s vehicle revealed about 1.5 ounces of marijuana, some plastic baggies, a digital scale, and a pipe with marijuana residue. In addition police said cash seized from in the car’s console appeared to have been “sorted” based on recent sales. Police said Barcelona’s car was towed from the scene. Police said the incident took place within 1,500 feet of Fairfield Prep. Barcelona posted a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 6.

A resident of New Hampshire Avenue reported that his home had been burglarized on Sept. 24. Police said the resident left the house at about 5 p.m. that same day, but returned at about 10 p.m. to discover the rear sliding glass door to the kitchen open and the house ransacked. The resident reported that $5,000 to $6,000 in cash had been stolen, along with several thousand dollars worth of jewelry. Police said entry was gained through a kitchen window. Police are investigating.
