Fairfield Police Want to Know: 'Are You O.K.'

The department offers a free program designed to look out for the welfare of our community's elderly, handicapped and housebound.

A Fairfield Police program dating back to 1998 is still working to make sure community members are OK.

The program — "Are You O.K." — is an electronic reassurance system provided at no charge to residents. The department says it was implemented in 1998 for the elderly, handicapped or housebound to help guarantee their well-being and safety.

"It allows you to register with the Fairfield Police Department and receive a phone call at your residence, electronically at a predetermined time everyday," the department writes on its Facebook page. "If there is no answer the computer will make a second attempt and if there is still no answer the computer alerts the Emergency Communications Center and a police officer is dispatched to the residence to check on the welfare of the subscriber."

You may pick up a registration form at the Fairfield Police Department, 100 Reef Road, or at the front office of the Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace. You may also download the registration form here: http://fpdct.com/pdf/ru_ok.pdf

Once you fill out the form, bring it in to police headquarters.
