Fairfield Residents Nabbed in Alleged Drug Sale Bust

Members of a special task force had been investigating the alleged sale of narcotics for a few months.

A Fairfield man was arrested Wednesday following a narcotics sale investigation lead by members of the Statewide Urban Violence Cooperative Crime Control Task Force. The unit is made up of officers in the state police and throughout Fairfield County.

The task force had been conducting the investigation in both Fairfield and Bridgeport for several months, according to a statement released by Fairfield police on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Gus Verras, 52, of Grasmere Avenue was charged with three counts of sale of narcotics, three counts of conspiracy to sell narcotics, and the sale of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school, police said.

Verras was released after posting a $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 6.

In June, an alleged conspirator of Verras' was arrested by police. Elizabeth Gonzalez, 37, of Kenwood Avenue, was charged on June 22 with three counts of the manufacturing and/or sales of narcotics, three counts of conspiracy to commit the manufacturing and/or sale of narcotics, and risk of injury to a minor, according to police.

Gonzalez was turned over to judicial marshals after her arraignment on June 22.
