Fairfield's Bravest Extinguish Warner Hill Rd Blaze

The following is a press release from the Fairfield Fire Department.

At 8:51 PM on Dec. 18, 2011, Fairfield firefighters were dispatched to a report of smoke in a house at 116 Warner Hill Road. The first arriving engine company was met by the home's occupants and found a fire ball shooting into the sky from the front of the house. Firefighters aggressively advanced hose lines into the house to control the blaze and successfully cutoff the fire’s spread into the residential portion of the house from the attached garage. Firefighters were also challenged by below freezing temperatures that created icy conditions and frozen hose lines.

Fairfield Engines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Ladders 1 and 2 and the shift commander responded to the scene. Bridgeport and Westport fire departments sent units to cover additional calls in Fairfield during the fire. The four occupants were evaluated on scene by paramedics from AMR and refused transport to the hospital. One occupant was later transported by private car to the hospital for evaluation due to smoke exposure. The Gas Company and United Illuminating were called to the scene to secure the utilities to prevent additional hazards. Animal control officers were called to the scene and they took custody of three family dogs to provide shelter and care. One firefighter was also transported to St. Vincent’s hospital for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries.

"While there is extensive smoke and heat damage inside the home, fire crews did an excellent job in confining the fire to the garage and breezeway portions of the structure," Assistant Chief Scott Bisson stated.

The house was not habitable and the occupants were making arrangements for temporary housing. There was extensive fire and smoke damage to entire homes interior. The Fairfield Fire Marshall was called to the scene and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
