Fairfield Sees Plenty of Mischief on Night Before Halloween

Mailboxes, Cars Most Frequent Targets on Mischief Night

Youths put the mischief into Mischief Night in Fairfield, vandalizing mailboxes, cars and homes around town on the day before Halloween. Police on Monday reported incidents around town on Saturday that included:

* Spraypainting vandals caused $20,000 worth of damage to a total of seven cars and trucks parked outside Star Towing on Jennings Road in Fairfield sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

* A 2008 Jeep Liberty parked on London Terrace was keyed on the driver's-side rear door and fender, sugar was poured into the gas tank, and a brown, paste-like food was spread on the rear windows and doors. Damage was estimated at $1,000.

* A driveway light was smashed on Burr Street and a paper bag filled with feces was set on fire on the home's front porch about 10:11 p.m. Damage was estimated at $300.

* Front and rear passenger windows on a car parked on Hulls Highway were smashed sometime between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, causing about $500 damage.

* Eight mailboxes on Mountain Laurel Road were damaged, causing at least $575 damage in total, and toilet paper was thrown in one of the yards.

* Several mailboxes on Sherwood Farm Road were vandalized. One was ripped from its post and sprayed with shaving cream; another was knocked over; and a third was ripped off its post.

* Eggs were thrown at the Gray Goose, a restaurant on the Old Post Road in Fairfield's Southport neighborhood, by three men who had been asked to leave the bar for making inappropriate comments. The restaurant's owner followed the men as they drove to Old South Road and called police. Police said the men admitted to throwing the eggs and agreed to clean up the mess, and the owner did not want to press charges.

* An outside door on North Stratfield School on Putting Green Road was spraypainted, causing $200 worth of damage.

* The front windows on a car parked on Silver Spring Road were covered in yogurt and soap.

* Several mailboxes on Mill Hill Road were vandalized with spray paint and shaving cream.

* A house and car parked on Euclid Avenue were hit with eggs, and the rear window of the car was covered with paint. The homeowner was able to remove the paint.

* The driver's side of a van on Euclid Avenue was covered with shaving cream and paint.

* A white picket fence on Woodridge Avenue was vandalized with black writing, and shaving cream was sprayed onto a car. Damage to the fence was estimated at $200.

* A port-a-potty on Flintlock Road was knocked over, eggs were smashed on a rear window of a motor vehicle, a yellow chalky substance was left on the front windshield, and shaving cream was left in the mailbox.

* Ten to 15 juveniles drew on cars and threw toilet paper into trees by Mill Plain and Taunton roads.

* A mailbox in the 1400 block of North Benson Road was smashed.

* A mailbox on Galloping Hill Road was smashed; damage was estimated at $50.

* A mailbox post on North Benson Road was broken, causing about $100 damage.

* A mailbox was snapped off its post on Fulling Mill Lane, causing about $300 damage.

* Paint was sprayed onto a sidewalk in front of a Windsor Road house.

* Shaving cream and Silly String were sprayed onto a car and mailbox on Waterville Road.

* A mailbox on Riverview Circle was knocked over.

* Toilet paper was thrown into the front yard of a home on Boroskey Road about 10:15 p.m. Saturday.

* Toilet paper-covered debris was left in the middle of Flintlock Road about 10:42 p.m. Saturday.

* Super glue and glitter were left on the front steps of a house on Edgewood Road.

* Pumpkins were smashed on Sunnyridge Avenue.

* Eggs were thrown at a house on Mill River Road.

* Pumpkins were smashed on Penfield Road.
