Members of the Fairfield Police Department and Connecticut State Police have been working in tandem to combat the increasing rate of narcotics violations and weapons-related crimes.

The effort is due in part to increased shootings in Bridgeport, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.

On Wednesday a Fairfield resident faces drug charges after members of the Statewide Urban Violence Cooperative Crime Control Task Force executed a search and seizure warrant at her 32 Kenwood Avenue home, Lussier said.

Elizabeth Gonzalez, 36, was charged with possession of narcotics and controlled substances outside of their original containers and possession within 1,500 feet of school, according to a police report.

Gonzalez had been a suspect of the investigation after police had seen her allegedly selling cocaine in Bridgeport over the past few weeks, Lussier said. Fairfield police first conducted a motor vehicle stop after Gonzalez left her home Wednesday in a blue Toyota Camry; they executed a search warrant for her vehicle and found three baggie of cocaine, police said.

Police detained Gonzalez and she was transported to State Police in Bridgeport for processing.

The Fairfield Police Emergency Services unit then assisted the State Task Force to conduct the search of Gonzalez’s home. A male, whose name has been withheld pending further investigation, was found and detained, Lussier said.

A search of the basement revealed a loaded Walther PPK 380 handgun inside a bag. The serial number of the gun had been mutilated and police believe it was stolen, Lussier said. The Task Force also found Percocet and Oxycodone outside of their original container.

Police expect to make more arrests in connection to this investigation, Lussier said.
