A Round Hill Road resident believes a man he met in a Stop & Shop parking lot may have stolen his wallet on Monday, police said.

According to the police report, the resident met a man who called himself “John” outside of Stop & Shop last week. John said he could fix dents in the man’s car and came to repair the car at some point last week. He returned Monday to finish the work and reportedly asked the resident if he could come inside to wash his hands.

The resident let John into his home and went into another room to grab his checkbook, and when he came back into the room where John was, his wallet was gone, according to the report.

The complainant asked John to empty his pockets and searched John’s car for the wallet to no avail. The resident’s credit cards were used at Marshall’s and the Post Road Sunoco in Fairfield after John left the residence. A $278 charge was applied at Marshall’s and an $80 charge at the gas station, police said.

The resident said that “John” drives a beige four-door sedan and gave police two phone numbers to contact him with, but police were unable to get in touch with John.

This is under investigation.
