Fairfield PD Investigating Car Break-Ins on Black Rock Turnpike

Cars parked at two different restaurants on Black Rock Turnpike suffered smashed windows.

Police are looking for a white Chrysler PT Cruiser that may be associated with at least one of two car thefts that occurred Wednesday night.

A vehicle parked at the restaurant MESA on Black Rock Turnpike suffered a smashed passenger window and an HP laptop, laptop case, and charge were stolen from the passenger side floorboard, police said.

A MESA employee told police that he had seen a PT Cruiser operated by a white female circling the lot before he discovered the car had been broken into.

Another car break-in was reported at the restaurant , which is also situated on Black Rock Turnpike, a short time before the MESA incident.

The victim’s vehicle was entered via a smashed passenger side window ($300 in damage), and a Dell Latitude laptop ($1,500) was taken from the front passenger floorboard, police said.

All other cars in the parking lot checked OK, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.

A Bridgeport man was arrested and charged with sixth-degree larceny on Wednesday at after he allegedly swapped a barcode on a KitchenAid mixer and didn’t pay it’s full $350 value, police said.

Ernest Henton, 48, reportedly took off the mixers’ barcode that would have scanned it’s rightful price -- $350 -- and swapped it for a $50 barcode, according to the report. He paid for the mixer with a Kohl’s credit card, Lussier said.

Kohl’s loss prevention, however, saw Henton switch the codes on surveillance tape. He was released on a $500 bond and issued a Feb. 10 court date.

A 15-year-old girl reported to police on Wednesday that she was followed after she got off the bus by two men in a large, dark blue vehicle, according to the police report.

The two men were driving in the Wellington Drive neighborhood when the girl got off the bus. She told police she hid behind a neighbor’s house after one of the men, whom she described as in his 20s, and possibly Hispanic with short curly hair, got out of the vehicle and started following her.

She saw him look into all the windows of the house before getting back into the car, which was being operated by a dark-skinned man, who was wearing a baseball cap and also appeared to be in his 20s, Lussier said.

This is under investigation.

A Bridgeport woman was arrested on Wednesday and charged with sixth-degree larceny after she allegedly shoplifted $160 worth of merchandise from on Kings Highway Cutoff, police said.

Emily McCall, 21, walked past all points of sale without paying for the goods she had placed in a bag in a shopping cart, according to loss prevention employees at Stop and Shop. They stopped her in the parking lot an detained her until police came.

According to the report, McCall told police she was going to sell the goods in Bridgeport.

She was released on a promise to appear in court on Feb. 13.

The house damaged by fire on Cambridge Street in January was burgled, according to police.

The landlord had the home boarded up following the Jan. 21 blaze, but its tenants returned this week to the home and discovered someone had kicked in the door, Lussier said.

A vintage guitar ($3,000), a watch ($2,000), and assorted jewelry were missing, according to the police report.

This is under investigation.

Police are investigating a larceny reported by a Southport Woods Drive resident on Wednesday. The woman said a group of juveniles stole a small pink wooden bench from her back porch, as well as a 12-pack of diet Coke, according to the police.
