The family of former Sacred Heart University basketball player Chauncey Hardy, who died after being punched in a bar in Romania last year, has reportedly filed a lawsuit seeking $210 million in damages in connection with his death.

Hardy, who played professionally for the CSS Giurgiu basketball team in Romania, died Oct. 9, 2011, at age 23 after being treated for head injuries he sustained when he was punched in what may have been a racially charged incident during a post-game celebration at a bar.

According to a report in the Hartford Courant the lawsuit names numerous defendants including the basketball team, the league, the team's head coach, and the hospital where Hardy was treated. In addition it reportedly names Ionut Adrian Tanasoaia, 25, the man who punched Hardy. Tanasoaia was sentenced to five years in prison in February, according to the report.
