Fire Originated in Storage Room in Engravers World [Updated]

Firefighters from area departments spent Thursday afternoon battling a fire in downtown Fairfield.

Update at 5:20 p.m.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Fairfield Fire Marshal Bill Kessler says it appears to have originated in the first floor storage workroom in the rear of Engravers World.

The Post Road has reopened to traffic.

With the main body of the fire out, Fairfield firefighters continue to work at the scene of today's downtown blaze — checking for hot spots and doing overhaul.

Fire officials told Patch they believe the fire started in the rear office on the building's second floor.

No injuries have been reported.

Update at 12:50 p.m.

Fairfield firefighters are reporting that the blaze has now been "knocked down." But they added that "all hands are still working" at the scene.

The address for the fire has been confirmed as 1559 Post Road, which is the Fairfield home of ITEX.

According to its website, the company is "the leading marketplace for cashless business transactions."

The Fairfield Fire Department has called a second alarm, as they battle the the Post Road blaze.

Bridgeport and Westport fire departments are providing mutual aid at the scene, with Easton units now assisting in covering Fairfield stations, according to Stratford 911 Center's Twitter updates.

The fire is reportedly located at 1555 Post Road, the location of Engravers World. Smoke can be smelled as far away as the Fairfield Theatre Company on Sanford Street, according to Alain Munley on Twitter.

Smoke is reportedly filling downtown Fairfield from a fire on the Post Road.

The exact address was not immediately available, but reports indicate that the Post Road is closed in the area of Reef Road and that the fire may be near the Fairfield University Book Store.
