Update at 7:30 p.m.

An unidentified man was found deceased in a Clinton Street home Monday evening, after police responded to the residence to conduct a welfare check.

A colleague of the man requested the welfare check after he had not been seen or heard from for a few days, according to Deputy Chief Chris Lyddy.

Two police officers and a firefighter found the man after they forced entry into the home, Lyddy said.

After entering, they discovered a potentially hazardous material and immediately backed out of the house and called for HazMat, Lyddy said. As a precaution, the three voluntarily went to the hospital to get evaluated for possible exposure.

The nature of the hazardous material was not immediately available.

Lyddy said a "small isolated hot zone" has been established around the house, at 32 Clinton St.

He said that there is no immediate danger to nearby residents and that there have not been any evacuations. Clinton Street is a cul-de-sac located near Jennings Beach.
