Five Charged With Using Fake IDs to Buy Alcohol

Police arrested five in a series of attempts to use counterfeit IDs to procure alcohol.

Five people were arrested Thursday for allegedly , police said.

Four of those accused of using fake IDs were arrested after allegedly trying to buy alcohol from on Fairfield Beach Road. All were charged with misrepresentation of age to procure alcohol.

Andrew Baranauskas, 19, of Massachusetts, was reportedly caught using a counterfeit Maine driver license to buy a 30-pack of Keystone Light beer at around 2:30 p.m., police said. He told police he purchased the ID for $75 from a website based in China, according to the report. Baranauskas was released on a promise to appear in court on April 2.

Just short of an hour later, Vincent Iannitelli, 18, of New York reportedly attempted to buy alcohol with a fake New York driver license, police said. The manager of That’s the Spirit could tell the ID was a fake because it was too shiny and marked by the wrong hologram. Iannitelli was released on a promise to appear in court on April 2.

At around 4 p.m., Eugene Pedroli, 20, of New York was at That’s the Spirit Shoppe and reportedly attempted to buy alcohol with a counterfeit New Jersey license. The manager of That’s the Spirit could tell the ID wasn’t real because it was too shiny and was marked by the wrong holograms, police said. Pedroli was released on a promise to appear in court on April 2.

Later Thursday evening, Tara Tropeano, 19, of New York was reportedly caught attempting to buy alcohol with a fake New York license, which had her real name and a different date of birth on it. The manager of That’s the Spirit noticed the ID was too dull in color to be an actual New York license, and it was missing a hologram. Tropeano was released on a promise to appear in court on April 2.

Across town at , Thomas Gaynor, 20, of Fairfield allegedly tried to buy a bottle of Captain Morgan rum with a counterfeit Connecticut driver license, police said. Gaynor also reportedly told police he had bought the ID from a website based in China, and that he already had one of the fake IDs confiscated in New York, police said. The manager could tell the ID was a sham because of the color, the holograms used, and the lack of detail in the state seal. Gaynor was released on a promise to appear in court on March 30.
