Former Staples High Coach Charged with Violating Protective Order

Jeffrey Schare, 43, a Fairfield resident, was arrested in December and faces sexual assault charges. He was re-arrested for allegedly being in the vicinity of the victims' home.

Former Staples High School swim coach and math teacher Jeffrey Schare -- who was accused of sexually assaulting two young girls in in December -- was charged Thursday with violating protective and restraining orders, police said.

Police said a complainant reported that Schare, 43, of Rock Ridge Road in Fairfield, was in the immediate vicinity of the two victims' home on Jan. 22, violating both protective and restraining orders. According to the report, he was spotted near the home after he had been to court to plead not guilty to the charges against him.

Schare was rearrested Thursday and was scheduled to be arraigned in court later that day.
