Gas Leak Shuts Down Fairfield's Post Road

A gas leak caused when a construction worker cut into what was thought to be an abandoned gas line, has prompted Fairfield Police to close the Post Road near North Pink Creek on Thursday.

According to WFSB, crews were working on the expansion of a tequila bar thought a gas line to a meter was abandoned and dead. However, when a worker cut into the line, he realized it was still active and emergency crews were summoned.

Metro-North Railroad service on nearby tracks isn't affected and drivers are being instructed to use Interstate 95 as an alternate route into town since the road closure about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
