Girl on Bike Struck, Pinned by SUV on Stratfield Road

Two bicyclists were struck by an SUV Tuesday afternoon on Stratfield Road. One, a girl whose age was not immediately available, was pinned under the vehicle.

The Fairfield Fire Department sent this report on the accident:

At 3:41 pm on Tuesday afternoon the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received multiple calls of a person struck by and underneath a white SUV at the intersection of Stratfield Road and Suburban Avenue.

The Fairfield Fire Department responded with Companies 2 and 3, and upon arrival Engine 3 Lieutenant Phil Higgins took command and reported a female trapped underneath the engine compartment of a white Subaru SUV with a second bicyclist nearby who had apparently also been struck by the vehicle, adding Ladder 1 and Bridgeport Rescue 5 to the assignment for additional tools and personnel.

Upon arrival Assistant Chief Erik Kalapir assumed command and notified the ECC that Bridgeport Hospital’s Trauma Unit should be placed on alert pending incoming patients.

Fairfield and Bridgeport Fire personnel utilized pneumatic rescue tools and cribbing to lift the vehicle sufficiently to gain access and remove the injured girl who, along with the second patient, was transferred to the awaiting AMR ambulance for transport to Bridgeport Hospital.

Fairfield Fire Chief Richard Felner, Bridgeport Battalion Chief Ismael Pomales, Safety Officer Ken Domschine and Lieutenants Paul Kochiss and Richard Mangiamele along with their personnel worked alongside Fairfield Police and American Medical Response to secure the scene, provide medical care and ensure rapid extrication and removal of the entrapped patient.

At 4:29 pm Engine 3 and Car 3 were the last Fairfield Fire units to clear the accident scene, turning it over to Fairfield Police Department for investigation.
